Mapping & Modeling: Cornea: Introduction
Prior to the development of the CMS, in 1988, there was no way of evaluating the cornea in order to prepare for refractive surgery.

Corneal surgery is often difficult and complicated.  Gersten-Koplin created a diagnostic tool that allows the refractive surgeon to evaluate patients before surgery.  Today any patient with symptoms that might be related to corneal degeneration is evaluated with the CMS instrument.

The corneal maps the CMS produces allow fast, easy and accurate diagnosis.  The Gersten-Koplin team introduced the concept of using color coded maps in diagnosis.
